The Anthem SL was designed as the streamlined version of the Anthem. Utilizing a pre-set mix between the mic and pickup, you get the best tonal qualities of the Anthem with a simplified control unit and minimalist endpin preamp.
In 2010, when the acoustic world was running to cold digital modeling, Baggs chose a different route. We believed a real mic would do a better job of being a mic. Leaning into pure analog physics, we bypassed the digital emulation idea to create our award-winning Anthem System.
Our breakthrough moment came when we collaborated with Keith Sewell, who was searching for a mic solution while touring with Lyle Lovett to eliminate the harsh spikes of traditional pickups in their in-ears. Lloyd Baggs saw this as his challenge to create a hybrid mic-pickup system with a single, feather-weight preamp on the instrument and a new type of mic, packing it with more advanced circuitry than even our legendary Para DI. This system became a grand Anthem to those years of innovation.
At the heart of the Anthem System is our patented TRU•MIC technology, mounted securely to the underside of your bridge plate. The TRU•MIC uses a PZM housing to “average” the sound from the guitar top for a clear, direct, and accurate sound. Combined with a proprietary admittance pattern, our capsule completely rejects the muddy, reflective “boxiness” of the inner instrument, performing like a mic on a stand outside the guitar.
To give you the best sound on stage, we paired the TRU•MIC with our acclaimed Element Pickup, which acts like your guitar’s own personal subwoofer. The mic carries the majority of the guitar’s frequency range, delivering an open, organic acoustic sound across the mids and highs where traditional pickups give you the notorious “quack.” Meanwhile, the Element Pickup steps in underneath to handle the low frequencies for a rich, full sound and optimal feedback suppression.
For players who prefer an unobtrusive layout, the Anthem SL delivers the same groundbreaking studio-mic’d fidelity as the Anthem, in a streamlined format. The endpin preamp has all-discrete circuitry for the purest signal, and the TRU•MIC is premixed with the Element Pickup for optimum performance. It’s the best of our Anthem System in a smaller, lighter package.
